How often do you see a black and white photo and think to yourself, “Yeah, that’s EXACTLY how that moment appeared to me…”? Not very often, I’ll bet. Yet I almost never see anyone screeching “Jesus Christ, will black and white photography please just go away!!1!” on comments.

Photography is a subjective game. If you don’t like a specific picture or style, keep looking.

Cheers!

The colors aren’t the same, the lighting doesn’t appear as it did in person.

Have you ever seen an HDR photo and thought to yourself, “Yeah, that’s EXACTLY how that moment appeared to me!” I’d very much doubt it, unless you were using some sort of psychedelics at the time.

I just haven’t seen anything new done with HDR for years, and it’s getting quite tiresome.

Nothing new is being done with it, and it’s quickly losing its interesting edge. It’s the same with selective color. They’re gimmicky techniques that don’t necessarily improve a photograph. Most of the time, they make it worse.

As a colleague of mine once said, “We wouldn’t even have HDR if people knew how to properly expose a photo.”
