Sure, every rule has exceptions. I believe PNG Google page example is more lightweight due to a small number of colors in it. Anyway, my aim was to demonstrate the difference in quality between these examples. I have even purposely lowered the quality of JPG pic for that.

You are quite right, I just outlined the tendencies meaning lightweight JPG and heavy PNG. The real situation can be distinctive, depending on many different factors.

File size is always a consideration. I would think it depends also on how the experience is designed to…because you can have smaller PNG uses..and you may need a Larger JPG .
