Summary

DescriptionEUgivetake2013.svg	English: A map of the European Union (Lambert Azimuthal Equal-Area Projection) distorted to represent the relative per capita contributions of the member states to the EU budget that was agreed for the years 2007-2013. Blue countries are net donors; red countries are net recipients; the larger the country the more each inhabitant of the country will pay/receive. Note that Luxembourg is not shown. The Luxembourgeois receive so much EU largesse - more than 2000 euros per head every year - that when included in the map very little else was visible.

Source	Own work by uploader. Budget data from Open Europe. Population data from Eurostat (I think I used pop. estimates for 2006 or 2007, but there's more error in the cartogram process than there'll ever be in a few years of population growth or shrinkage). Made wholly with freely available and astonishingly feature-rich and reliable open-source software: ScapeToad, Inkscape and MapWindow.
